Stageworks Guest Teachers

Every week we welcome a guest teacher to the college to teach students studying for our Professional Performance Diploma. Our guest teachers are professionals who are currently working in the industry and are quite often in the middle of performing or rehearsing a show. Here is a selection of teachers we’ve had in the College so far this year.

Lexi Clare

Lexi is a New Zealand actress and producer, now based in London. She is the Artistic Director of Lexi Clare Productions, a fresh new production company with a focus on providing platforms for emerging artists and fresh perspectives. In 2017, she established the Maiden Speech festival, which staged nine new works by female writers. Most recently, Lexi was Assistant Producer on the UK premiere of Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties (Southwark Playhouse), which is nominated for six Off West End awards. Lexi holds a MA Performance (Distinction) from Mountview Academy Of Theatre Arts and was recently described by BritishTheatre.com as “a force to be reckoned with, and a welcome arrival on the British theatre scene.” Additional producing credits include: Prelude (Above The Arts), Purple Snowflakes (Above The Arts, Leicester Square Theatre), Ma, Am I Good In Bed? (Leicester Square Theatre), Much Ado About Hero (Leicester Square Theatre, Attenborough Centre) and Oedipus (Stage Two Productions).

Samuel Thomas

The Last Five Years (The Other Palace), Allegro (Southwark Playhouse), Floyd Collins (Wilton’s Music Hall), Death takes a Holiday (Charing Cross Theatre), 35mm (The Other Palace), Oklahoma! (BBC Proms- Royal Albert Hall), The Comedy About a Bank Robbery (Criterion Theatre), Honeymoon in Vegas (London Palladium). Workshops include: Emma- a New Musical (Thom Southerland), Super Ordinary (Jenny Lee) and The Illusionist (Thom Southerland) Concerts include: Scott Alan Live at Zedel (Zedel), Jason Carr Live at Zedel (Zedel), Crazytown- the music of Ryan Scott Oliver (The Other Palace). Samuel won the ‘Stage’ Debut Award for Best Actor in a Musical for Allegro last year and went on to Host the Annual Stage Awards this year with Best Actress in a musical Miriam Teak-Lee (Hamilton).

George Ure

George trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. He made his professional debut in the London company of
WICKED (Apollo Victoria Theatre) playing the role of Boq. He later reprised the role as part of the Original UK/Ireland Tour.

Credits include: Zacky in BIG FISH (Original London Cast at The Other Palace) Rusty in STARLIGHT EXPRESS (Redevelopment Workshop with Andrew Lloyd Webber & Arlene Philips) Tobias in SWEENEY TODD (Welsh National Opera / West Yorkshire
Playhouse), HAIR (European Arena Tour), THE GUINEA PIG CLUB (York Theatre Royal, BRITANNIA HIGH (ITV) and singing alongside Michael Buble and Kylie Minogue as part of ROD STEWART’S CHRISTMAS (ITV).

As a vocal and performance coach, George has lectured at some of the UK’s top conservatoires, including Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, Bodywork Company, LAMDA and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He has also worked internationally with students in Italy and Belgium. In 2015 he was invited to work with award winning
actress Zoe Wanamaker in preparation for her performance in ZORBA (New York). His directing credits include A NEW BRAIN, BAT BOY, INTO THE WOODS, BAD GIRLS & NINE.

Michael Jean-Marain

Michael graduated from our Foundation Course and gained a place at The Urdang Academy. His theatre credits includes ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’ (West Yorkshire Playhouse), ‘3 Little Pigs’ (UK Tour), ‘Hetty Feather’ (West End and International Tour), ‘Saturday Night Fever’ (Silja Symphony), ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ (USA Tour), ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ (UK Tour), ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ (UK Tour and Leicester Square Theatre), ‘I’ve Seen Santa’ (UK Tour), ‘Peter Pan’ (Basildon Towngate).

His TV credits include ‘We Love Danette’ – Danette Yoghurt, ‘Fancy That!’ – Sports Relief, ‘Better Pictures Every Day’ – Nokia Lumia 925. Michael also appeared in River Island’s campaign for their Liz Black capsule collection that premiered at London Fashion Week August 2014.

Ellie Rutherford

Ellie trained at Arts Educational Schools, London where she studied for a degree in Musical Theatre. She is now the assistant Dance Captain of the MAMMA MIA! UK & International tour.

Adam Lyons

Training: London Studio C​entre. Theatre Credits include: Priscilla Queen Of The Desert (UK/International Tour/Residency at The Civic Theatre, Auckland, New Zealand). Strictly’s Anton and Erin’s Swing Time (UK Tour) and That’s Entertainment (UK Tour); Anton and Erin’s Christmas Cracker (Royal Albert Hall); Jingle Bell Christmas (Royal Albert Hall) and Robin Hood (Oxford Playhouse).

Film and Television Credits include: As a dancer, Adam has appeared with Rita Ora & Sigma on The X Factor (ITV); Series Two and Three of The Voice Of Ireland (RTE); Surprise, Surprise (ITV); Bradley Walsh’s Christmas Cracker Live at the Apollo (ITV); Michael McIntyre’s Christmas Cracker with Robbie Williams (BBC) and as Choreographer for Violetta Dance (Disney Channel).

Other Credits include: Adam appeared with Rita Ora at Capital FM’s Summertime Ball 2014 and 2015 (Wembley Stadium), BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend and the Wireless Festival. Other appearances include as a dancer for Kanye West at the Brit Awards (O2 Arena); Choreographer for Universal Studios, Singapore; Assistant Choreographer/Dancer for Sarah Harding; Priscilla Rock FM’s West-End Showcase (Blackpool Festival) and Adidas Fashion shows. Adam has also toured the UK with his own music and works as a Singer/Songwriter around the globe. He performed at The Roxy Theatre, Hollywood after shooting his first music video in LA. His music has featured on many dance compilations (Sony Music) which has charted in Germany.

Lizzie Ottley

Lizzie graduated from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. She has performed as Tinker Bell/Dance Captain in Peter Pan (Harlow Playhouse), Lisa Houseman in Dirty Dancing (West End/UK & International tour), U/S Mistress/Swing in Evita (West End/UK tour), U/S Mary Magdalene/Swing/Assistant Dance Captain in Jesus Christ Superstar (UK and European tour), Fairy Bowbells in Dick Whittington and Fairy Jewel in Sleeping Beauty (Millfield Theatre).

Other credits include being a backing singer for Will Young at the Olivier Awards, appearing in a music video for The Streets and being Debbie/Dance Captain in My Name Is Richard Edinburgh Fringe.

Laura Darton

Laura trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts where she was the recipient of the Peter Coxhead and Ian Fleming Awards. Laura is currently Swing in The Rat Pack Live from Vegas at Theatre Royal Haymarket, London.

She was a finalist in the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year 2013 and sang the winning Styles and Drewe ward song, ‘That Once in a Lifetime Feeling’ by Tim Sutton.

Francis Haugen

Since graduating from Mountview Ed has worked as Associate Choreographer on Dessa Rose (Trafalgar Studios), Ensemble in Barnum (UK & Ireland Tour), Wonder.land playing the Mouse (Olivier, National Theatre), Cinderella (London Palladium) & Legally Blonde (Theatre de Monte Carlo).

Anna Stolli

Anna has most recently been playing Rosie in mamma Mia! (International Tour) and her other theatre credits include: Shakespeare Revue (UK Tour), Mother Pig in Stiles & Drewe’s 3 Little Pigs (UK Tour), Vera in Love Birds (Edinburgh), Fiona in Irish Wings (European Tour), Tess in White Christmas (Cardiff & Edinburgh), Sandra in Beautiful Thing 9BAC), Ava Gardener in Frank (Belgrade Coventy), Miss Bell in Fame (No1 Tour), Chesty Prospects in Saucy Jack & The Space Vixens (London), Polly in Crazy for You & Mrs Anna in the King & I (both Aberystywth), Frigid Bridget in A Slice of Saturday Night (No1 Tour), Magenta in The Rocky Horror Show (European Tour) and the much put upon wife in Ray Cooney’s farces Run for your Wife, It Runs in the Family and Funny Money (UK Tours). Dominic grew up in Jersey C.I. and trained at Performers College, Essex. He is now Associate Director for Kinky Boots on the West End. Other credits include:

Tim Hodges

Tim Hodges. Tim is currently performing in Half a Sixpence on the West End and this time last year he was on stage at the Old Vic playing Hyde in Drew McOnie’s dynamic dance version of ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ (pictured here). He has also performed in productions of The Car Man and Edward Scissorhands at Sadler’s Wells, toured internationally performing Swan Lake and featured in a number of musicals in the UK and abroad including Oliver!, Singin’ in the Rain, Dirty Dancing, Chicago, Cats and We Will Rock You.

Greg Castiglioni

Trained at Moutview Theatre School in London. Credits include Gus the theatre cat in the international tour of ‘Cats’; Thomas Andrews in ‘Titanic’ at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto; Magaldi in Michael Grandage’s London revival of ‘Evita’; Phantom in Phantom of the Opera; Thénardier in Les Misérables; Baalthazar Macaw in Robbie Sherman’s new musical ‘Love Birds’; Algernon Moncrieff in ‘The Importance Of Being Earnest’; Paul in ‘Company’; alternate Rusty in ‘Starlight Express’; Luiz in ‘The Gondoliers’ and Pluto in ‘Orpheus in the Underworld’; Master Low-Water in ‘No Wit/Help Like A Woman’s’; u/s Tito in ‘Lend Me A Tenor The Musical’.

Greg has also performed in numerous concerts in the UK and internationally. He recently recorded backing vocals for Adele’s upcoming Australian tour and has taken part in the staged concert version of ‘Kiss Me Kate’ at the BBC Proms. He is part of the original quartet of singers for ‘A Spoonful of Sherman’ celebrating the acclaimed music of the Sherman brothers; and in Germany organised gala concerts for both UNICEF and for the Jose Carreras leukemia fund which lead him to sing with Sister Sledge for President Gorbachev. He can be heard as A-Rab in the ‘West Side Story’ 50th Anniversary recording; in the cast recordings of ‘Love Birds’; ‘A Spoonful of Sherman’; ‘Evita’ (2006 revival); the ‘Starlight Express’ 2002 German cast recording and on the film soundtrack of ‘Mamma Mia!’.

Greg also co-wrote and composed ‘Let Him Have Justice’ (T.E.Records), a musical based on the Derek Bentley case which opened at the Cochrane Theatre as part of the Covent Garden Festival.

Trina Hill

Trained at Urdang Academy.  Theatre credits includes  Pearl – Starlight Express (Bochum, Germany)  Mrs. Stratton – Barnum (Chichester Festival Theatre), Francine and Swing in Jersey Boys (Prince Edward Theatre, West End), Narrator- Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (UK Tour), Ensemble and cover Scaramouche- We Will Rock You, (Original UK Tour).

Katie Paine

Lauren is an original cast member of ‘The West End In Concert’ and has performed in many productions with the company since 2012.

Leah O’Connor

Leah has performed for artists including Jess Glynn, Martin Garrix, Rebecca Ferguson and Seann Miley Moore, and appeared on various TV shows and live events including The Voice, Alan Carr and The Late Late Show. She’s travelled the world as a singer/ dancer on board The Boudicca and Fred Olsen Cruise lines, and performed in High School Musical, Cheerleader/ Dance Captain, Whiskey in the Jar, The Cheerios Pantomime Snow White amongst other stage shows.

Sophie Carmen-Jones

Born in Swansea Wales Sophie trained in London at Arts Education School and Laine Theatre Arts before making her West End debut in We Will Rock You. Sophie’s career highlights include playing Francine in the West End production of Jersey Boys, Paloma in Children in The Sun and most recently starring as Velma Kelly in Chicago’s smash hit UK tour. Sophie’s film and television credits include Disney’s live action Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens and Kate in Casualty for the BBC.

Martin Dickson

Martin graduated from the Guildford School of Acting with the Principals prize and has worked across Theatre, Television, Film and Radio. Theatre includes:Peter Becker ‘Across the wall’ directed by Paul Nicolas – St James theatre London, Admiral Von Schreiber in the recent International Tour of ‘The Sound of Music’, Bob the Builder in the final London cast of ‘We Will Rock You’ where he also played Pop & Khashoggi, Dr Neville Craven in ‘The Secret Garden’ (London Revival), understudied and played the title role in ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ (UK Tour), John Wilkes Booth in ‘Assassins’ (Pleasance), Tybalt in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ (Leicester Square Theatre), Zebulon/Pharaoh in ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ (UK Tour), Ethan in ‘The Full Monty’ (Gordon Craig Theatre) and Mr Nixon in John Godber’s ‘Teechers’. TV includes: Skegvegas for Channel 4,  ITV1’s ‘Popstar to Opera Star’, ‘West Side Story’ for Tiger Aspect and Ant and Dec’s ‘Push the Button’.

Nick Butler

Philip Bertioli

Philip Bertioli is performing in the London revival of 42nd Street. His other theatre credits include Funny Girl at the Savoy Theatre; Warhouse at the New London Theatre; Jesus Christ Superstar USA Arena Tour; Dame Edna Farewell Show, London Palladium and UK Tour; 9 to 5 Musical UK Tour; Minnie Oh!
