ADDITIONAL NEWS
Transcend Dance Company
The new calender facility lets you see what Stageworks has planned including events and performances all year round. View it here!
Stageworks Studios is excited to be hosting the new Transcend Dance Company for Contemporary based work as of September 2009.
As well as training in the various Contemporary techniques, dancers will also explore methods of choreography as well as increasing their awareness of movement intention and understanding. The company will be guided to discover themselves as people, dancers and creators and be taught to work with personal emotion, as well as creative expression and understanding through movement
Additional to this, Transcend will also be offering the Arts Award.
‘Arts Award supports young people to develop as artists and arts leaders and is a nationally recognised qualification at three levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Achieving an Arts Award says a lot about a person. It shows your commitment to your art form/s, your interest in developing your skills and understanding, your communication, planning and evaluation skills. It demonstrates skills in leadership as well as your own arts practice.
These skills are what colleges, universities and employers are looking for and many recognise the Arts Award as an additional qualification. The Arts Award team are currently preparing an application to UCAS to attach points to the Gold Award.
The Arts Award is run by Arts Council England and Trinity Guildhall – two organisations with a high profile and considerable reputation in the arts sector. This means that arts organisations take the Arts Award seriously, and many of England’s best-known arts organisations are getting involved with the award.’
For now, the Arts Award in aimed at 11-25year olds. For those aged 7-11 Transcend has something else up its sleeves which will be announced shortly.
Transcend Dance Company is led by Aimée Finch, a local choreographer in the area who is keen to widen the opportunity for children and young adults to explore movement and dance in a fun, yet educational way.
With dance qualifications at GCSE, A Level and Degree standard Aimée is keen to draw on her areas of training to encourage and broaden her student’s spectrum of ideas, allowing them to creatively experiment with movement in their own personal way.
Having recently taken two groups of students to compete in the area heat of the British Red Cross Dance for Life competition, her dancers performed exceptionally well, and picking up several awards including entertainment, diversity and choreography. Her junior team won the heat and now goes through finals.
Anyone with an interest in dance is welcome to audition for the company which will be held during the summer break. All that Transcend ask for, is commitment to the Company. The inability to attend regular scheduled rehearsals has an knock-on effect to the Company as a whole, especially during choreography sessions which consist of intricate patterns and timing.
Transcend is open to anyone living the area. Spread the word if you have a friend who might be interested!
If you would be interested in auditioning for Transcend Dance Company and taking part in the Arts award, please
Company rehearsals will be held on Sundays within two age brackets, 7-12 years and 12-19 years.
